Photos from St. Paul Building Demolition, New York City, 1958

These photos show the removal of Karl Bitter's statues "The Races of Man" from the St. Paul Building in New York City. Once among the tallest buildings in Manhattan, the St. Paul Building was demolished in 1958 to make way for the Western Electric Building. Bitter's statues, made of Indiana limestone, were taken to Indianapolis, where they now form part of "The Ruins", a sculpture at Holliday Park completed in the 1970s.
