Presentation of Plaque Recognizing the USS Indianapolis, Nuclear Powered Attack Submarine, 1975, Image 1

Plaque (hidden before its unveiling) recognizes the USS Indianapolis, SSN 697, Nuclear Powered Attack Submarine, whose keel was laid on October 19, 1974. The plaque was presented in a ceremony held November 7, 1975 in conjunction with the bicentennial of the U.S. Navy and on the occasion of the visit of Admiral Hyman G. Rickover (third from right) to the Naval Avionics Facility in Indianapolis. U.S. Representative William G. Bray (fourth from right) stands next to the plaque, which includes a quote from Bray regarding the need for a strong navy. Mayor Lugar stands on the far right.
