Canal District Photo for Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Img. 3

This photo depicts a stretch of the Wabash & Erie Canal in Indianapolis. Largely abandoned since the 19th century, when railroads eclipsed it as a transportation artery, the canal became a centerpiece of Indianapolis' beautification efforts beginning in the late 1960s.
