George Bush to Republican Leaders, April 19, 1974

Bush writes to Republican leaders following a Republican defeat in a special election in Michigan's 8th District to fill a vacancy in the U.S. House of Representatives. The press were apparently reporting that Nixon's visit to Michigan to campaign for the candidate hurt the candidate, and Bush rgues that this is not true: the candidate was behind in the polls before the president's visit and actually received a bump following the visit.
