About the Institute for Civic Leadership and Digital Mayoral Archives

The Digital Mayoral Archives of the Institute for Civic Leadership at the University of Indianapolis captures the history of a great Midwestern metropolis during a period of phenomenal growth. As an expanding archive, the collection seeks to capture the breadth of stories and perspectives that have shaped municipal leadership throughout the city's history. Its current holdings of hundreds of thousands of documents, photographs, artifacts, and multimedia sources offer invaluable insights on mid-twentieth century urban history and metropolitan development; the nature of leadership and risk-taking; intersections of local, state, and federal government; race relations; community service; municipal identity and images of place; and the history of the Midwest.
