Mayor Lugar at Indianapolis Baptist Temple, Img. 5
Mayor Lugar visits the Indianapolis Baptist Temple. With approximately 8000 members, the IBT was one of the largest churches in the nation in 1970. Pastor Greg Dixon (far left) later became a prominent televangelist and clashed with the Internal Revenue Service over the taxation of churches. The Temple was raided by Federal marshals in February 2001 and later demolished.
